Poe · Hong Kong

Poe gives you ChatGPT and Claude in Hong Kong with no VPN. It also gives you a ceiling.

One login, every model, no overseas card. But Poe is the brains without the hands — it can’t touch your files, read your inbox, or work inside your spreadsheet. Here’s when that’s fine, and when it has quietly become the thing holding you back.

No VPN needed Same models No connectors
The honest version

Poe is genuinely useful infrastructure. It is also not enough on its own.

If you work in Hong Kong and open an AI app at your desk, there is a good chance the icon says Poe, not ChatGPT or Claude. That is not a taste preference — neither OpenAI nor Anthropic lists Hong Kong on its supported-country list. Poe is the practical answer the market found on its own.

What Poe gives you

The same models as the native apps — GPT-5.5, Claude Opus 4.7, Gemini 3.5 Flash. One subscription, no VPN, no overseas phone number. From a Hong Kong network, on a Hong Kong payment method.

What Poe cannot do

Connect to your files, inbox, calendar or Drive. No code execution. No Projects. No memory between conversations. You get the same brains as the native apps, and none of their hands.

When Poe is enough

If what you actually do with AI is ask a question and read the answer — drafting a paragraph, summarising an article, checking grammar, brainstorming names — Poe is sensible. Keep it.

When to outgrow it

The moment your AI use needs to touch a second system — your inbox, your file drive, last week’s version of the same document. Poe stops being a cost question and becomes a capability ceiling.

What changed

The native apps became platforms, not chat windows

ChatGPT and Claude used to be chat windows too. They are not anymore — they have become platforms that plug into the rest of your working life.

ChatGPT now ships with 60+ connectors into Gmail, Drive, GitHub, Slack and Salesforce. Memory that carries context between conversations. Projects that keep a piece of work organised over weeks. ChatGPT Work plans out a multi-step goal across connected apps and hands back a finished document, spreadsheet or slide deck.

Claude has MCP connectors that plug into your tools from claude.ai, the desktop app, or Claude Code. Cowork handles non-coding knowledge work inside an isolated environment with access to a folder you designate. Projects and Microsoft 365 integration mean it knows which client, which deal, which deck you are working on.

None of that is available inside Poe, at any price tier. You can have literally the same GPT-5.5 or Claude Opus 4.7 and get a completely different amount of usefulness out of it.

The model was never the constraint. The wiring was.

Working out yours

The right setup is not the same for everyone — and should not be

A compliance officer, a banker and a management consultant need three different answers. Some people need a corporate ChatGPT or Claude plan with proper data controls. Some need an API-based tool wired into one specific workflow. Some need a small team arrangement so a few colleagues share context on the same deal without three separate subscriptions.

Working out which of those is actually yours — and whether Poe should stay in the mix for the simple things while something else handles the connected work — is exactly the kind of decision I sit down with people over privately, in one working session, before we touch a single workflow.

One session, one hour. AI applied live to your real work. You leave with your AI opportunity map: what to hand to AI first, which tool does it, and the automations worth building.

Finish the hour and if it was not worth your time, you do not pay. HK$800 (A$145) each if you bring a colleague.

"I was working 14-hour days, struggling to keep up with the work of three people just to stay on top of everything happening in the markets. Two weeks after a session with Christian, I've automated several of those functions — and I'm more confident than ever that man + AI is the right approach."

Quick answers

What Hong Kong readers ask

What can’t Poe do?

Poe can’t open your files, read your inbox, work inside your spreadsheet, or connect to your calendar. You get the same models (GPT-5.5, Claude Opus) but none of the connectors — you are left copying answers in and out by hand. That is where native ChatGPT, Claude desktop, and agents take over.

When should I outgrow Poe?

When your AI use starts needing to touch a second system — your inbox, your file drive, last week’s version of the same document. Poe is perfect for asking a question and reading an answer. It becomes a ceiling the moment you need AI to work inside your actual files and tools.

Do I have to drop Poe entirely?

Usually not. For a lot of people the right answer is a split: Poe stays for quick questions and model-shopping, and something connected handles the work that touches your real files. What that second thing should be is the part worth thinking about properly rather than guessing.

Can you use ChatGPT and Claude in Hong Kong at all?

Not by signing up directly — neither OpenAI nor Anthropic lists Hong Kong as a supported country. The practical routes are Poe, or Microsoft 365 Copilot, which runs OpenAI’s (and now Anthropic’s) models inside the Office tools your company already pays for. The cost and access detail is set out in full in Poe AI in Hong Kong: the brains without the hands.
